Questions & misconceptions

Does an AO need a blockchain? Is a team of agents already an organization? What does “operating system” mean here?

#Does every AO need a blockchain?

No. Blockchain is one possible substrate for shared rules, assets or governance. An autonomous organization may instead operate with local storage and conventional infrastructure. DAO and AO overlap in some implementations, but neither term should erase the other’s meaning.

#Is a group of agents an organization?

Multiple agents alone are insufficient. Look for a continuing purpose, identifiable authority, coordinated work, durable commitments and a way to evaluate and accept outcomes. A single-agent implementation can provide these organizational properties; a large agent swarm can lack them.

#Does autonomous mean unlimited authority?

No. Autonomy describes how an organization acts within a mandate. Its owner defines limits, approval requirements, resources and stopping conditions. A useful assessment records which decisions require human involvement and how actual tool permissions enforce the boundary.

#Is Axiom AO a new operating system kernel?

“Operating System for Autonomous Organizations” names the organizational software layer. It coordinates purpose, roles, tasks, state, events and verification above an operating system and an agent harness. Linux, the harness, the toolchain and optional containers remain distinct layers.

The current local prototype is not proof of an unattended, container-ready product. Consult implementation and validation for version-specific boundaries.
